Be sure that you are hitting to a target, and change your target often. Use a practice stick or another golf club to help you determine if you are lining up correctly.

Begin with your 9 iron, 7 iron, etc., and then gradually work to your driver. A small bucket of golf balls a couple times a week will do great wonders for your golf game.

Complete your practice with some chipping, along with putting to round out each session.

Here are a couple of ideas to help you improve that putting during your next round of golf. I want to start with what I always start with in any aspect of the swing, and that is to relax and get those legs firmly underneath you. Let your arms hang down naturally. Now, get the ball farther up in the stance towards your front foot – this will allow for a little more chance of the putter head releasing through impact.

One of the biggest reasons we miss so many putts inside the crucial zone (five feet and in) is because the putter head is slowing down instead of accelerating as it comes into the ball. No matter how short the putt, the putter must be accelerating through impact in order to hit the putt solidly and stay square to the intended target.

Lastly, stay in that posture as long as you can. I see so many players, including myself, coming out of the posture early in the stroke. This opens the face of the putter head ever so slightly, just enough to miss way too many ‘make-able’ putts. So, keep that spine angle in the same position way past impact, and listen for the ball to go in.

On May 1st, Scott Rosenthal and Mary Ann Synder will be hosting the 50th Never-Ending Ladies Clinic at SWOG Charleston National. The reason this is so special is because many of you who were part of our first clinics when we began in May of 2006 are still playing and enjoying this great game of golf. There have been many great memories along the way: meeting and working with so many great gals, the wine and cheese celebrations, the cheering when someone hits a great shot, the no-seeums—and just the pleasure of watching so many gals walk away from that first golf clinic with smiles on their faces, realizing that they could actually learn to play this game. So—many thanks to all of you who have participated with us—and please know that we will be there for you when your golf game needs a little more fine tuning. On behalf of Scott and Mary Ann—-a great big THANKS.

Come out and join us! We still have space for the Never-Ending Ladies Clinic beginning May 1st – click here to register NOW!

One of the first contacts many ladies remember having with golf is the course they took for college credit. Fast forward several years since that first introduction and most gals will tell you that golf still has a way of working its way back and forth into their lives. Golf may come in the form of friends asking you to join them for a morning out on the course, a get-together with co-workers after work, or an invitation from a boyfriend or husband to join them to play 9 holes. There may also be opportunities to play a round of golf with a client, or to represent your company in a corporate outing. Golf is a game that allows you to participate at many levels; from just being able to talk about the game with the men in your life, to being a casual player and enjoying the benefits of just getting out, golf is a special game. Learning the game and about the game will open up new dimensions in your life. Jump in gradually, learn the basics. Find the time, find a golf clinic to join, and learn a great game that will provide you with a lifetime of fun memories.

This is what I do know about the mysteries of the game of golf:

Most high handicap players never get better because they simply don’t practice correctly. When they do take lessons, they never stay with what the instructor is teaching long enough for it to take. Look at Tiger Woods. It takes him, arguably the greatest player who ever lived, at least a couple of years for his remade golf swings to work. The solution is practice well with a plan. Once you sign up for a lesson, stick with what the pro is teaching you, or it is a waste of time and money.

The player must learn to use the left side of the body in the golf swing or they have no chance of ever being good. This is not intellectual, but a feeling you must practice every time you practice.

The game is played from the ground up. The reason most players fail at ever getting better at this game is that they simply never learn to play golf with their lower bodies.

The most important club in the bag is THE DRIVER. Learn how to hit this club at all costs.

The only putting practice you ever need to do is from 3 ft., 5 ft., and 30 ft.

Lower expectations of your game to play better! You are only going to play well maybe twice in ten rounds. Accept this and you will play better and enjoy the game more.Aim every shot to the center of the green no matter where the pin is. This was the strategy of the great Jack Nicklaus. It may not help you win a Major, but it will take pressure off of that swing and help you score lower.
